Questions families often ask
-
At Odyssey, our focus is on companionship, relationships and consistency, not just completing tasks.
We carefully match companions to each person, taking into account personality, interests and what makes someone feel comfortable. This helps build real trust and familiarity over time, rather than having different faces arriving each visit.
Our nurse-led approach also means there is experienced support behind the scenes, helping us notice small changes early and support families with calm, professional reassurance when it is needed.
For us, support is about helping people feel comfortable, valued and themselves in their own home, not just looked after.
-
No. Our role is to support both the person receiving care and the people who love them.
Family care is deeply personal and irreplaceable. We are there to work alongside families, helping ease the pressure and offering support when you cannot always be there.
Sometimes that means giving family carers time to rest, work, or focus on simply spending quality time together, rather than managing tasks or worrying about day to day support.
-
This depends on availability and your needs, but we always aim to support families as quickly as possible once we understand the situation and know that we are the right fit for your loved ones needs.
-
It means your care is overseen by someone with clinical experience. We can spot small changes early, help prevent problems from escalating, and give families peace of mind that our companions are supported and guided by clinical knowledge.
-
Yes. Real companionship is a huge part of what we do. Sometimes conversation and company are just as important as practical help.
-
Absolutely. Many people use support to maintain independence rather than replace it. We are companions and are there to support combating loneliness.

Support during times like:
• After hospital stays
• When family carers are away
• During illness or recovery
• When extra reassurance is needed -
Yes. Support should flex around real life.
-
Yes. Our nurse led experience means we understand how routines, familiarity, and calm support can make a big difference.
-
Familiar faces matter and you will always know your companion. T
-
Yes. We are happy to prepare meals and we can also use kitchen facilities.
-
We are happy to take a loved one to an appointment when necessary. We will not be there to comment medically, but be there so support and accompany.
-
We do take our companions for days out, we pay for our own beverages and do not charge mileage within a 5 mile radius, but we ask the companion to fund their day.
-
We do not provide personal care such as washing or bathing, and we do not replace regulated care services. Odyssey focuses on companionship, practical home support and nurse led reassurance. If personal care is needed, we are always happy to support families in finding the right regulated care provider.
